One question.
Why did you have red wine in your fridge🤷🏻‍♂️?
It’s not a normal fridge. It’s specifically for wine. It keeps it at a consistent temperature so it doesn’t go bad, similar to a cellar. Sadly I don’t have a cellar so this is the next best thing.
If it was left in a wine rack in my house it wouldn’t last a single summer without the heat impacting the taste.
Basket Press is exceptional and deservedly receives accolades. My sneaking suspicion is that the Rod & Spur will be the pick of the pair. In my experience, it has a firmer backbone and is a little less "soupy."
Will definitely be interesting to compare. The Basket Press is probably getting to the limit of its age for good drinking too.
Surprising consensus tonight.
Both wines were equally as good as one another.
The Basket Press aged well. It wasn’t left to open up for long as it didn’t need it. Beautifully fine. Soft tannins and fruit while keeping its body. Worth the 10 year wait.
The Rod and Spur needed to be left to open up and had more fruit. The Cabernet definitely provides a different structure.
We all agreed that if the R&S was a year older it would probably pass the BP.
Rockfords are definitely low time preference wines.
