What does science have to do with it? I am a user. I believe that I should be able to vote or participate in consensus like I can with proof of stake, for example. With bitcoin its only miners, node runners or developers who control the direction, which may not the the same as the users who don't have electricity and equipment costs for example. They may have different interests.
