I already don't have a whole lot of respect for most people who come up with philosophical ideas and arguments, but I have absolutely zero respect for people who study other people's philosophical ideas and arguments. If you specifically choose to study the ideas of someone you KNOW won't show up to elaborate or to correct any misinterpretations then you probably don't give a shit about the original ideas; all you care about is how reading those words makes you feel. I absolutely love talking with Christians because they are real and tangible and they will give me shit if I mischaracterize their arguments to them. I hate reading the bible because even if Jesus appears before me to explain what he meant, (after I huff a particularly potent cloud of incense of course) there's literally nothing objective and tangible I could ever show someone to verify my experiences.
