To be fair, most of the major centralized options are extremely mature. 10-20 years mature. I've always caveated my criticisms with that fact. Nostr is alpha and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. But that's also a great reason to not shame people for failing to go all in on it today.

I think it's fair to push UX to be better, but totally unfair to expect it to match mature alternatives. Perfection right now is dumb. My problem is that a lot of stuff is just covered up with more stuff. Maturity will never be reached without refinement of existing infrastructure before piling more shit on. But you're right. No one is in control of the ride. It's a blessing and a curse.
