I wrote an essay in 2015 about how the internet was a liberty wave.

That as it passed over different layers of the world, it would break the hold of entrenched power in that layer for a period of time.

That you could trace its movement through culture along the path all new paradigms take…. from the philosophers, to the artists, to the entrepreneurs, to big business, then to money and government.

government moves the slowest, which is why it’s always last.

You could see what the wave did to each entrenched power structure as it passed… the music industry, movies, media…

The printing press was a liberty wave. The internet more so. And we can see how dramatically the printing press changed the face of the world.

I wrote it then because I had the feeling that the main body of the wave was just starting to hit money and government.

That seems accurate now 😂

Everything is going to change.

Curious- did you study China in that paper? Seems like a case study of how it might go backwards as well with other technological controls. Or do you see their authoritarian surge as a temporary blip?

Well said! However reading this, It seems Liberty is the Ocean… with varying sized waves pounding any static structure on the coastline; thousands of monolithic structures reduced to rubble all so that we can enjoy the sandy beach. 🏄
