Two CPU #vulnerabilities, "Downfall" and "Inception," have been disclosed by #security researchers. Downfall affects multiple generations of #Intel processors and exploits a flaw in the "Gather" instruction, allowing untrusted software to access data stored by other programs.
Inception affects newer #AMD CPUs and is a side-channel #vulnerability that leaks arbitrary data on affected #Ryzen, #Threadripper, and #EPYC CPUs.
Both vulnerabilities can be patched with OS-level microcode updates or firmware updates with fixes incorporated.
