And on top of that it only cost me time. There were no student loans or tuition to pay. Just my time.

I can definitely see that, some books do explore this, as everything in has some kind of monetary transaction linked to it. It’s all just a shift in perspective from thinking more about today’s needs vs tomorrow’s.

Yes, perhaps that is the crux of it all.
