I've never been a CEO, but I can give some ideas I have.

One idea is to prepare for the best and worst possible outcomes. Try to make decisions that will leave you better off in every possible market, even if that means compromising a little profit in the market you find yourself in currently.

Another idea is to value competence very highly. Managing others does not scale. Therefore, whenever you find someone who can manage themselves, hold on very tightly. Don't expect it to happen often.
