someone was asking me about the question of magnetic fields and polarity reversals as they conduct across the stars and objects of the galaxy
this is a recent paper just dropped about the subject of the one on the galactic scale... just like inside an old school CRT, the flow of electrons is affected by magnetic fields, and not only electrons but all types of particles are affected by magnetic field flux lines - they tend to flow parallel to the flux, and are deflected by perpendicular flux
large scale magnetic field flux like this naturally acts as a kind of conductor for energy through space... when the sun blasts us with plasma and the general solar wind, some of it that passes us is funneled down to the poles and charges up the earth with electrons
this is enormous amounts of energy constantly flowing and one of the results of this is imbalances that result in lightning storms, and another consequence of it is where current releases through huge amounts of rock from a negative charged mass that has absorbed these electrons, and in doing so causes a piezoelectric effect on the intervening rocks and their silica crystals, which then change shape, and on a massive scale this gives you an earthquake - earthquakes are not just from slipping plates, they are stimulated by piezoelectric activity, and there has been numerous anecdotal reports of ground penetrating radar at fault lines seeming to trigger off a small shake
anyhow, the point of all that is to say, that under the ground, there is massive amounts of energy that we could use if we were able to conduct it safely out and into some form of storage device, whether batteries or capacitors or pumping water in a water battery
probably more energy than we will ever need
this is what Tesla was working on
