So then you have to decide who is moving TOWARDS democracy and who is moving AWAY from democracy.

Russia held a referendum for LPR and DPR to join Russia and there were western journalists that were there as international observers.
They all reported that everything was done fairly, but that there were several attempts by Ukrainian army to bomb the polling stations that were intercepted by missile defence systems.
Those journalists have all faced sanctions.
