My red heeler mix has been my best dog ever. He was so easy to train. He came everywhere with me from 8 weeks of age and always just followed me everywhere, recall was just in him. The girl Dolly, is 1/2 pit bull and 1/2 Aussie. She’s definitely the most difficult dog I’ve ever raised. The first 3 years were wildly challenging, but she’s an absolute treasure now.

Do you work them hard daily or can they handle just relaxing every now and again? Do they do well around kids?

I don’t think heelers need hard work the way some people talk about it, but certainly a bit of exercise each day It’s much more important to give mental stimulation in my opinion. Teaching them to do things gets their little gears turning and really keeps them calm. They’re super loyal and protective of kids, but they will nip at their heels if they feel like they’re running around out of control. Tough to take heeling out of the heelers!
