For faster and more reliable self sovereign zaps the LNaddress + Zap server can be set to communicate with the backing node over a VPN like Tailscale.

I guess setting up non-custodial zapping won't get any easier than this or using voltage. Still, this won't scale unfortunately.
For now both the LNaddress and zaps need a webserver, but why could in not get easier?

Yeah, I guess it can (and will) get easier. It just seems BOLT12 has been just around the corner for quite some time. We have until 2025 in the EU, no time to lose hope!
