Can you slap a solar panel in it and put it on a tree?
Seen on Fedi:
Done! I built a functional Meshtastic node for $5.24:
RP2040-Zero - $1.74
RFM95 - $3.50
I omitted a screen, as that would have brought the price to $7.44. it works great over serial!

Yes. Probably want a battery, charge controller, battery discharge protection curcuit and optionally an MPPT circuit too.
As you may guessed, I'm working on ansolar meshtasic node myself. Mine will not be as cheap, but it's all modular, so people can mix & match
Nice 😃 I dream of turning trees into node networks and being truly unstoppable.
But we'd need to consider people detecting and destroying / hacking them too
If they're cheap enough, you could afford to lose some to vandals, weather, or the like.
Having them not be hackable still seems worthwhile though, since a worm could be absolutely amazing on a mesh network. Which can be great if you're the one who writes it. Probably not so good if you're on the receiving end. 😂
