This is based on conversations with journalists and publications over the past few months it’s not naïveté. They run controversial story headlines and social media posts by their legal teams. It’s the lawyers making the calls.

The headlines have all updated anyways. Why resort to name calling?

As an ex-journalist (many moons ago) and in no way a fan of MSM or the way it and social media can distort truth (often like a giant game of Chinese Whispers), I do agree with Linda here. Legal often influence headlines to cover their arses in breaking news events and can lead to some very oddly worded headlines. Doesn’t have to be shootings or political. You also see this with reports about ongoing court cases, opinion pieces, and editorials. Legal actually used to be very influential in the days of print too where headlines were committed in ink and could not be updated like online.
