Hey! My loose understanding is that mastodon is part of the fediverse, in that they both use the ActivityPub protocol. I think your mastodon instance is considered a fediverse server. I’ve never actually used either one, but nostr:npub1q3sle0kvfsehgsuexttt3ugjd8xdklxfwwkh559wxckmzddywnws6cd26p (I believe it was him) built a sort of bridge called Mostr.pub that enables content to sort of travel between the Nostr protocol and the Fediverse

I guess it functions as a server on ActivityPub and a client on Nostr, but I’ve never used it as a client — I am just pulling notes from the mostr.pub relay, I guess.

For context, you can think of nostr clients like an app or web browser that enables you to interact with content. Each client has a different interface/user experience — sort of like the difference between chrome and safari, but also like the difference between Reddit and Twitter and Instagram and Substack, except that you can take your account/content/social graph with you from client to client. Nostr relays, on the other hand, are like dumb servers.

So, I guess, by adding the mostr.pub relay, and because I probably follow either the #art or #nature hashtag, I was able to see your post because my client knew to pull it from the fediverse. If I have this right lol

Perhaps Alex can offer more insight 🤙
