France and Germany have launched a new initiative to create a European early-warning system, called JEWEL, independent of NATO, NORAD, and U.S. systems. It will feature space-based satellite missile early-warning and defense capabilities under the “ODIN’S EYE I/II Project” and ground-based radars across Europe. Both nations have invited other EU and NATO countries to join the project.
