While I think you are right about the forces pushing in that direction, I find it hard to see how the average person will be able to “securely” host their own data if we can barely keep them from using their birthday as password.

I think most people's security game will go up massively because of the same AI tech.

"AI, what are the latest patches that I should install to harden my server?"

"How do I upgrade plugin?"

Etc.

Real challenge I see is non-technical ppl setting up and running their own servers. We’re talking domains, SSLs, hardware choices, firewalls, physical location, backup, etc. Updating software once it’s running is comparably easy. But maybe “your” AI one day can do all of that for you, then question remains how it knows it’s you when you instruct access changes.
