So, is a NIP-05 identifier that functions as a lightning address everything you need to be a functioning citizen of the internet?

On NostrPlebs.com, it would, if you added an existing address as your forwarding address. For example, if you use Wallet of Satoshi and have cooldude69@walletofsatoshi.com as your address, you can enter that address on nostrplebs.com/manage to enable your NIP-05 to act as a forwarder for that existing address. You'd now be able to get Lightning payments at trbouma@nostrplebs.com and have them show up in your existing Wallet of Satoshi wallet!

I just tried that with Nostr purple domain but I’m getting an error. Decoding invoice failed. Any idea?

Well, it works, but my node is failing to find a route to pac.fish where you Lightning wallet is hosted. That's not a nostrpurple issue though.
