I've been visiting Mainland China and living with Chinese families since I was a teenager. I speak a lot of Chinese and understand a heck of a lot more than I speak.

First to visit friends (3 close friends at a Private Boarding school. 2 the sons of Generals one the son of a Real Estate investor). Then due to relatives marrying Chinese.

I ate the same breakfasts (I love fried dough sticks with soya milk), watched the same shows, visited the same malls. Shanghai, Beijing, Hebei, Hubei, Ningxia, Yunnan, Wuxi, Shanxi etc etc... I was always treated with kindness.

Often some self-loathing ABC or BBC maggot (American Born Chinese or British Born Chinese) will insult PRC (and therefore him/herself) in a group conversation and look to me for affirmation. Stupid Mistake.

I believe all people are good everywhere. We all love our children and want them to live in the best possible world.

The governments… not so much.

Yes.

But to be fair given the hand they were dealt, the Chinese government played it pretty well for their people. Yes there are problems but they built a fantastic rail network, lifted a billion people out of poverty all while taking insults (cheap Chinese goods, copycats, not innovative etc etc).

I disagree with the crazy control and censorship but as a friend once told me:

When you are young you worship the heroe, as you grow older you understand the villain.
