I'll bet 10k sats that you've recently been switching clients. There used to be a tool to back up your follow list but I think it's gone. It hasn't happened to me in a long time because I only use Amethyst lately.
I use lots of clients. So yeah, one of them did me dirty.

I'm using umbrel, i can back up when i'm on local wifi, haven't gotten around to it but want to switch to casaos and run zerotier so i can backup from anywhere

Nostr-relay, Umbrel has a package (see attached screenshot, it shows how it's logging follows) but you can also install it anywhere as there a git

This is cool. I wonder if I can do this with the relay that is available on the Start9 Embassy.
Try Nostur. When you login it notifies you of changes to your list of follows. You can choose to restore or ignore the change
