Is the json at least compressed without whitespace and newlines, or are they just like whatevs put it on the chain fully human readable?

If they compress it, it only means they can can afford to send more of it, the only thing that matters is when they run out of money 🤷🏻

Oh you poor sommer child, worrying about newlines on the blockchain.

People are putting 80 identical pictures of gold bars on the blockchain, nobody cares about newlines.

And to answer: no, whitespace is trimmed, but AFAIK that's not in the specs.
