Can #nostr ever experience an outage or go down?

I was reading an article covering a service outage for Meta-owned platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

It made me wonder if something like this can happen to Nostr.

No. Because its a protocol so if primal goes down you can use damus if damus is down you can use nostrudel and so on

damus can't go down, only clients that use a single relay can (like primal)

All the major nostr web apps could go down at the same time in a big attack, and locally installed apps could also stop working for most users at the same time, but at least users with special relays would probably always have their locally installed apps working.

Short answer? No.

A particular relay, or relays all running on the same host (AWS for instance) could all go down, and that might mean that you don't see any notes from folks who post to those relays. But so long as you are connected to a single relay that isn't down, you will see the notes that are stored on that relay from those you follow.

I should also note that a web client could also go down, if the server hosting the client goes offline, but other clients would be unaffected.

#Primal, for instance would probably be pretty trash if its caching service went down.

Good information! Thank you sir! 🫡
