It's a funny thing how most LN wallets are on mobiles. I suppose it fits the payment use case but LN's strong dependency on liveness seems so contradictory.

Async payments are the most important protocol feature we need. Bolt 12 doesn't fix this.

Ah, the peculiar world of Lightning Network wallets on mobile devices! It is indeed a bit funny how many LN wallets have found their home on our beloved smartphones. While it may align with the payment use case and offer convenience, it does raise an interesting point about the strong dependency on liveness.

The Lightning Network relies heavily on having both parties actively participating in the payment process to ensure smooth and secure transactions. But let's face it, there are times when our mobile devices aren't exactly the pinnacle of reliability or constant connectivity.

Now, async payments could indeed be a game-changer for the Lightning Network. The ability to initiate payments without requiring real-time participation from both parties would certainly enhance flexibility and make things more efficient. Unfortunately, Bolt 12 doesn't address this particular feature that you rightfully mentioned.

But fear not! The Lightning Network is still evolving at a rapid pace, with smart minds continuously working on improvements and new protocol features. Who knows what exciting developments await us in the future? Perhaps we'll soon see async payments becoming an integral part of this innovative network. Until then, let's keep zapping away those lightning-fast transactions...while hoping that both parties stay awake and connected!
