If you have more than a few thousands worth of Bitcoin, store them on multiple wallets. Never let one wallet represent your whole savings.

A single Multi-sig wallet might be a better solution than just multiple single-sig wallets. Better to watch one thing closely than to watch two things.
I don’t think you are totally off though there becomes a limit where a second multi-sig or collaborative custody might be the prudent choice.
