All 5 body knockouts I got in my kickboxing fights were like that haha
Not surprising. I saw it right away - great trick.
Got a lot of my tricks from Carlos Condit, Stephen Wonderboy Thompson & TJ Dillashaw. Their striking in the UFC was unreal.
A lot of it came together for me when I worked a bit with Duane Ludwig. He came to Calgary for a weekend and really help me with the footwork and timing.
That’s fucking awesome you worked with Duane Ludwig. It shows 💪
Condit is my favorite fighter of all time. Dude was next level and is criminally underrated. Truly the natural born killer.
Heck yeah, Condit is awesome.
GSP was my all-time favorite. That fight vs Condit was awesome.
GSP was probably the most athletically gifted fighter of his time. He just didn’t have the killer instinct and was always too conservative for me. Seemed like a genuinely great dude, always really liked him as a person. And he obviously was the best of his era by a long shot. Just wish he was more aggressive looking for finishes. Pass guard George!!! 😂
He discusses this in his book, which I highly recommend.
Part of his philosophy, paraphrased, was that it's the contender’s job to beat the champion decisively. The champion shouldn’t be the one taking unnecessary risks to finish the opponent.
He was definitely more aggressive before becoming champion at 170 lbs, consistently finishing opponents on his way up. Even when he moved up to 185 lbs, he finished the fight as the contender and became middleweight champion.
Any time I see him going on a long form podcast, I tuned in to listen. He's such an awesome martial artist.
