Prior to #Bitcoin numerous endeavors were made to establish an internet-native currency, including E-gold in 1996, Bitgold in 1998, and others.

However, it took over 40 years of cumulative efforts to finally bring about the successful creation of what we now recognize as #Bitcoin.
