The issue is how to onboard a random new person that just wants to be social online and experience zaps without jumping through tons of hurdles.

ecash wins for this. nostr:npub1kvaln6tm0re4d99q9e4ma788wpvnw0jzkz595cljtfgwhldd75xsj9tkzv gives a new user a ln address and requires no kyc. Couple good shit notes and you got some zaps to give bck. No NWC, scripts, spoofing kyc, email or any of that shit. Just an npub and a minibits address. Users can jump natively into the nostr ecosystem and work down the stack, not up it.
Minibits is Android only, right? And it would need NWC to make seamless one tap to zap. Still telling people to download a second app to use the full potential of the first app is a bit confusing for some.
But every nostr client needs a wallet to use the feature.
npub.cash is a great option to use with Mcadamia or eNuts for ios users
Two apps and two taps is not the biggest deal to avoid kyc and a 30% apple tax.
I think wallets should stay separate from clients. The wallet has more use than just nostr. And allows the user to move to another client.
I'm hearing you and I 100% agree with you, but I also know that the average social media user won't do these things unless it all just works with zero friction. We need a happy medium here.
Entire sections of my family and friends think it’s retarded that we send half pennies to one another. I’ve been told “How is that different from just clicking like?”
Effectively, it isn’t.
Honestly the way we all used to swarm zap random waitresses and bartenders that someone talked into signing up for WoS was probably more effective at orange pilling someone because it added up to something substantial.
Pushing new users to feel like they need to sign up for zaps right off the rip, before they have had a chance to learn about BTC may be a mistake, and may contribute to the “crypto project” status Nostr has in some circles. Wouldn’t it be better to focus on new users finding people to follow and pick relays? Isn’t that enough to contend with?
Just thinking out loud.
If the goal is switching instagram or tik tok users client tools and upload sizes need to increase. Is making a video more important than sending a zap? Mutiny has a choose fedi option. Perhaps clients could offer a choose wallet section based on questions and have nwc integrate the choice.
I would say the goal is general onboarding, but if we want retention then we need content and being able to have creators paid is important.
