No never, what's it's about?
its about some middle aged guy who still lives with his mother and thinks everyone is an uncultured capitalist twat.
Gave me a good chuckle. Some people love it and some people really dislike it. I suspect you may like it but not sure.
Ignatius is an intellectual, ideologue, deadbeat, goof-off, glutton, who should repel the reader with his gargantuan bloats, his thunderous contempt, and one-man war against everybody: Freud, homosexuals, heterosexuals, Protestants, and the assorted excesses of modern times.
A tragicomedy, set in New Orleans.
It seemed like Ballard wanted to write a love letter to William S Burroughs. Fetishise objects (cars, chrome, concrete etc - i.e art of Jeffrey Smart) and mash them with primal drives (sex, death, voyeurism etc). Top shelf prose but overstayed its welcome for me.
I haven't read any of either, although I'm aware of 'Naked Lunch'.
