Certainly the many downsides of these platforms - such as their ease of use by states tracking dissenters and protesters - are left out of the cheerleading news media stories on these movements. As is their use of non-corporate platforms, like the use of Mumble for large-scale voice conferences by the Occupy movement, or the work of g0v.
