Legitimate unhinged take. Essentially the argument boils down to 'lmao dont buy a tv becuase then you'll be an idle drone consuming any media that the powers that be spit into your open mouth.', 'instead without tv you can be productive!' Bullshit. The modern lull of internet content is infinitely more explotative then anything you'll ever see on tv. Sure, 'just dont engage with online content' is a perfectly reasonable take. The issue is when you're talking about the average consumer they do not have the presence of mind nor the self control to ensure they don't engage with online content in the same exact way they did so with television. Except now their habits are no longer passsive consumption of untargeted shows. Their drop in replacement WILL enable an exploitation that's infinitely worse than TV. Their lives domianted by algorithmic bias ever driving them towards more polarized perspectives. Rage = Engagement, number go up, antagonize, embolden, isolate, block those that disagree, 'You can't trust them!', 'These people hate you and hate your country!', 'These people want you dead!' etc etc etc. The nerve to insinuate the internet feedback loop will leave someone better off than the idiot box is laughable.
