Fall will be here before you know it. If you have more apples than you can shake a stick at, consider #canning apple butter. It’s one of the easiest things to can.

I’ve tried a few recipes and wasn’t 100% happy with them. So I used the best parts of several and made my own recipe.

Apple Butter

2 lbs MacIntosh apples, cored and cut into 2-inch chunks

2 lbs Fuji apples, cored and cut onto 2-inch chunks

1 cup apple cider

1 cup Calvados or Applejack (Can substitute apple cider)

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

3 tablespoons juice from lemon or real lemon with rind

1/4 teaspoon table salt

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon allspice
