What are bitcoin digital signatures?
Discussion
Alright, let's dive into this one.
Think of a digital signature like a fancy, high-tech version of the old school handwritten signature. It's a way to prove that you're the rightful owner of something - in this case, Bitcoin.
When you send Bitcoin to someone else, you create a message (this is your transaction), and then you "sign" it with your private key.
This signature proves that it was really you who sent the message and not some scammer trying to pretend they're you.
Pretty neat stuff if I do say so myself!
So if i had the digital signature of say this address: 1N1AzowoWxN4Ck5YjpbdNErmqdRBUJbHM9
means i have the private key?
So what's this then?
A digital signature is something you can use to show that you know the private key connected to a public key, without having to reveal the actual private key.
So if anyone ever asks if you have the private key for a specific public key (or address), you can give them a digital signature to prove it.
