They mention multiple sources and estimates, so it's good start to see different estimates. This is among the most conservative.

I would add these not so much fun things:

A 2018 study by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) found that less than 1% of criminal proceeds are laundered through the formal financial system.

A 2019 study by the IMF found that the cost of AML compliance for banks is estimated to be between 0.1% and 1% of global GDP.

A 2020 study by the World Bank found that AML compliance costs can be particularly burdensome for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

0.1% to 1% of GLOBAL GDP(!) to fight paper dolls. OMG.
