It would seem so. Their legends told of the arrival of red haired gods that foretold the end of the world. So they basically gave up.
That's the clip notes version anyway. I'll dig around and see if I can find some studies on it. Someone will have written an academic paper somewhere.

I find that Ancient Origin tends to have a bias though... "thing done" by brown people =good. "Same thing done" by white people=bad.
It's usually, like all history, more complicated.
