But also people do it on purpose, or as a way of protecting themselves *without* it being a trauma reaction that's difficult to control. An some people are malicious and vindictive when they do it.

As an emotional abuse survivor I am conscious of being extremely sensitive to this behaviour, which I find very difficult to tolerate. I'm not commenting on how people generally regard it>
