New to #Nostr and #Bitcoin?

You may be wondering ...

Q: Is sats equivalent to Bitcoin? I'd like to know, since I cannot afford one Bitcoin, would a plethora of sats saved get me to Bitcoin?

Here's your answer:

No – sats aren’t just “like” Bitcoin. They are Bitcoin.

Here’s an easy way to think about it:

1. Bitcoin (BTC) is the full unit of the digital money.

2. Satoshis (sats) are the smallest pieces of Bitcoin – like pennies to a dollar, or cents to a euro.

> 🟠 1 Bitcoin = 100,000,000 sats

That means 1 sat = 0.00000001 BTC

So yes — collecting sats is the same thing as collecting Bitcoin. It’s just doing it in small pieces instead of buying a whole coin.

Why this matters for you?

You don’t need a whole Bitcoin. You can buy $10, $20, or $100 worth, and you’ll get thousands or even hundreds of thousands of sats.

“Stacking sats” is a common strategy in the Bitcoin world. It means slowly collecting more and more sats over time — like saving up spare change. Many people do this weekly or monthly.

It adds up over time:

10,000 sats = 0.0001 BTC

100,000 sats = 0.001 BTC

1,000,000 sats = 0.01 BTC

10,000,000 sats = 0.1 BTC

100,000,000 sats = 1 whole BTC

Saving up a full Bitcoin might take a while, but it’s totally doable if you stay consistent.

Keep in mind:

1. Bitcoin prices go up and down. Don’t stress about how much it’s worth in dollars today. Focus on collecting sats.

2. Watch out for fees. When buying small amounts, fees can take a bite out of your money. Try to use apps or exchanges with low fees, or the Lightning Network for small buys.

3. Where to buy: Use well-known platforms like Coinbase, Kraken, or others that are available in your country. Many of them let you set up automatic buys every week or month.

4. Store your sats safely. If you’re saving a decent amount, move your Bitcoin to your own wallet (not an exchange). Hardware wallets are the safest.

> ✋ If you don’t control the keys, you don’t truly own the Bitcoin.

So, saving sats is not a shortcut to owning Bitcoin — it is owning Bitcoin.

It’s a smart and affordable way to build up your Bitcoin over time, no matter your budget. Even small buys add up.

So start stacking! Every single satoshi you save is a piece of the Bitcoin pie.

For #2 ... get your sats onto a cold wallet and OFF the exchange. This will come in time and as your grow.

I will use this if it’s ok for family members thanks

Yes, of course. Glad to help.

Thanks fam 💯

Number 3 involves KYC, which can get you in a lot of trouble with the authorities and with whomever gets their hands on that info.

🚫AVOID KYC AT ALL COSTS🚫

Thanks for the input. 🤙

Look someone on here said that cashapp or Venmo are the ones who get to make this decision and one of them decided to change the name of SATs to bitcoins.

So there are 100 million Bitcoins in a bitcoin and we can all feel special now

That's because people are uneducated and only listen to mainstream. Remember the "crypto is a scam" notices, and people being arrested for scamming others? I just saw an article today about pastor and wife fleecing their flock to purchase crypto and using the profits to go on vacations. Crypto doesn’t equal to Bitxoin, but that's the message being peddled.

Also it's crazy how retards say "pennies to a dollar"

There are no pennies in a dollar, dollars are metric. 100 cents in a dollar. No pennies.

USA never had pennies. Australia hasn't had pennies since we switched our currency to dollars.

UK has pennies.

You bring up a good point, worth highlighting BTC' units.

Bitcoin Units - From Smallest to Largest:

1. Satoshi (sat)

– The tiniest piece of Bitcoin.

– 100,000,000 sats = 1 Bitcoin (BTC)

– Like a penny.

2. Microbitcoin (μBTC or "bit")

– 100 sats = 1 μBTC

– 1,000,000 μBTC = 1 BTC

– Like small coins (like dimes).

3. Millibitcoin (mBTC)

– 1 mBTC = 0.001 BTC = 100,000 sats

– 1,000 mBTC = 1 BTC

– A good middle-size unit, like a dollar bill.

4. Bitcent (cBTC)

– 1 cBTC = 0.01 BTC = 1,000,000 sats

– 100 cBTC = 1 BTC

– Similar to 1 cent of a Bitcoin, not used often.

5. Decibitcoin (dBTC)

– 1 dBTC = 0.1 BTC = 10,000,000 sats

– 10 dBTC = 1 BTC

– Like a $10 bill of Bitcoin, rarely used.

6. Bitcoin (BTC)

– The full unit.

– 1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats

– Like a $100 bill, but digital and usually worth a lot more.

All these units are just different ways to measure Bitcoin — thanks nostr:nprofile1qqspvkuax73gjqcs8tu66fqrd0w9gfcgstqp4h2327gle9nxze704sgpzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgqgjwaehxw309ac82unsd3jhqct89ejhxqgdwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkc36nyxx !
