It turns out that a complete lack of algos actually leads to even more attention-concentration.

There's no longer a mechanism for moving notes up out of obscurity, other than reposts, and hardly anyone reposts anything.

Or a bunch of npubs repost the same thing and nothing else.

I'm now thinking Twitter developed algos to keep it from being too boring.

30 people reposting some gigantic account posting "GM" is not adding information to my feed.

poop stinks 😁

I agree for the most part.

I'm also considering about developing an algorithm for my future nostr projects.

But I also see some interesting posts I never saw before because of reposts. And sometimes the original post is months old.

Yeah, I like when people dig up someone or something obscure. Like a treasure hunt.

I would love repost-concentration, like some of the clients do with notifications. Rather than the post showing up 30 times, show me the first 5 times and then start clustering into one entry and adding +1, or something.

That would already help avoid the way a gazillion reposts of the same post drown out everything else in my feed. It's like my feed has a stutter, sometimes.

Yes, dears, I already saw that he said "GM and don't forget to stack sats". Thank you for your enthusiasm. 🙄

Good point, I will try to repost more when I find things I find interesting.

I try to repost, but I repost so much that people mute me. LOL

It's like... Me and what army?

I think the developers of Nostr think that Twitter's algorithm is evil. They don't want to be evil, so they don't develop any algorithms.

Well, lucky for them, that means they're the people everyone is following because they have been here the longest.

Happy coincidence.

It is an interesting point, I had not thought about it from this angle.🤔

Never expect people to correct a problem that they directly benefit from.

So they are evil. This is the opposite of the decentralization they promised.

Well, they are just indifferent.

Probably so🤔

Another thing is the way people start side-convos in completely unrelated threads because nobody would see anthing they said, if they didn't chat in the replies of some gigantic account.

I understand the urge, but then you have these crazy hellthreads that break my phone. LOL Can barely even scroll them, sometimes, or they're nested 13 times. Some big account will post a picture of a glass of water and the replies contain conversations on economics, hair braiding, adopting from the animal shelter, and Trump.

Adopting Trump from an animal shelter to braid his hair while talking to him about economics.

You're right. I guess I just didn't see how the topics are related.

Everything is related if you drink enough green tea while meditating and listening to Enya.

😆
