It's boosting your apparent zaps by zapping yourself so your posts get into the "most zapped" feeds on some clients. *coughprimalcough*
Can also be two or more users zapping each other back and forth so their zap numbers are both boosted.
Makes zap amounts useless for discovering content or worthwhile follows. Something intended to be high-signal, due to being real value, turns out to be easy to game.
