In the silence, with focused attention, it’s possible to notice that the self (“that feeling that you are you”), is just that: a feeling. It is *an *appearance*. A creation of the mind. Similar to how a flavor appears on the tongue, this feeling of self comes and goes. It is not permanent. Rather, it is something that can be noticed. Like a cloud forming and passing in the sky, or a wave that arises in the ocean and fades away.

Neither clouds nor waves have an independent existence. The same is true with thoughts. And that is all this Sense Of Self is: a thought. Like all thoughts, it arises and forms and passes away.

How long can you even hold onto a thought?

How long can you prevent a thought from coming into your mind?

Can you decide what your next thought will be?

#Meditation reveals the illusion, if you’re willing to look.
