Emergent L2 of the base layer blockchain which we call “reality”
Discussion
I’m hesitant to say L2, I’d have to think it through more.
What does it me to create time within time? What does it mean for information to crystallize into a state where it is immune to entropy? It seems more like a universe within a universe given that it embodies the identical properties that of quantum mechanics; irreversible computation.
All of this emergent complexity has been pointing towards Bitcoin. It’s here…now what? What do you do with a quantum computer?
Energy to crystallize into pure information where it is immune to entropy**
These are all good questions. And yea not certain that L2 completely fits but it’s something like that. It is true that Bitcoin ultimately relies on the security guarantee of intelligent beings existing in meat space to run the code and keep the lights on and ascribe value to it. If earth blew up Bitcoin would be gone just like if Bitcoin breaks lightning breaks. They both are dependent on the L1.
Earth being a single point of failure is problematic. Would be more interesting if and when we get to a place where bitcoin or its descendant is running in many solar systems.
But then the Milky Way galaxy is a single point of failure.
Inter galactic bitcoin may be the thing that truly transcends physical limitations.
It’s possible that thing already exists and earth’s wimpy bitcoin blockchain is akin to some dude running a bitaxe hoping to get lucky in the inter galactic hash wars
Every black hole points to a civilization that already discovered Bitcoin.
Or, it points to a singular address where the keys are lost and all UTXOs deposited can never be spent. Go send your btc to Satoshis address, a black hole. The energy is accounted, but nothing leaves.
Yea that’s cool. One thing I’ve thought about is, since bitcoin is its own arrow of time. What if you went off and hashed on your own for a while then came back and did an incredibly huge chain re-org. I’m talking 100,000+ block re-org. What if that disturbance in the time chain was enough to rattle the meat space time chain such that you could re-org reality. Basically it would give you write permissions on history and thus on the present. Seems like something nostr:nprofile1qqsw4v882mfjhq9u63j08kzyhqzqxqc8tgf740p4nxnk9jdv02u37ncpzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgqg5waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t0t9k57a should work into her sci fi novel
Assuming your proof-of-work was heaviest, you would certainly re-org reality by reallocating wealth (and thus the ability to influence reality in the future).
Now, how you would produce more proof-of-work than the rest of the network combined for 100,000 blocks is another question.
Well, if we pull on the UTXO theory of reality/quantum mechanics…how much of we ascribe to as traversable space are spendable UTXOs in the past; and how much are verifiable spent transactions of the past. Everything over 21M applies to the universe…we call that Kelvin.
If the universe is anything like bitcoin or vice versa, then it would create time within time, and it would follow the longest chain or work, hinting that there is no second best to earth, there are no aliens and leaving earth is leaving consensus of the longest chain; purely entropic.
The longest chain of work is a single point of failure, yet distributed…we just happen to live within it and are staring outward.
Hmm interesting. So we’re the tip of the speak. And spears by nature have just one tip. Couldn’t we be a fork or a chain tip about to be re-org’d?
It’s quite possible, I’m not sure. I could be totally wrong. But a UTXO model of reality does certainly change everything. Timespace seems fundamental; time is the distance between events in memory.
However, we live at the tip of the chain, always transacting in the present, awaiting the next block until our UTXOs (human energy) become fully spent.
This model does make the vast place we call space much smaller, it’s mostly memory of the past. Yet we know UTXOs of the past in bitcoin can transact with the present; things could get weird. Is Bitcoin the theory of everything?
