When we’ve been betrayed by other people or feel we’ve been cheated by life, we want to defend ourselves from further harm. Yet this desire to protect ourselves is based on the illusion of control, the same illusion that allow us to continue in negative behaviors. The result is a deeper and deeper sense of isolation. The problem is that life is more difficult and empty without someone or something to trust and believe in.
