Anyone able to comment on the differences between nostr and farcaster? A friend of mine is looking to build and wants to know more before picking a protocol. I can sell nostr, but can't fud farcaster as effectively.

#farcaster not yet
devil must be in the "details"
way zdb trying to centralize - hope farcaster is not going the samepath.
In a word: blockchain. It makes everything expensive where nostr is more affordable and can be used for free.
For example, users need to pay a yearly fee to store they data (for posting etc.).
Yet, nothing is really free.
Hereโs about the storage units:
My impression was that the name registry was on ETH, while data is stored on redundant nodes with no blockchain. Which is actually a good trade-off, the main problem being that the storage is expected to store everything on the network, which is silly.
Never heard of farcaster. That's one difference :)
seems like the main android farcaster app requires email verification. Tired creating an account, got a backup seed phrase; but couldn't get passed the email form
Farcaster needs Ethereum, nostr doesnโt need bitcoin.
Nostr hasn't solved the universal namespace problem. That will probably happen on bitcoin (if it happens at all)
Is this a real problem or do people just want another squatting/rent-seeking opportunity?
Other people use the name arkinox. I shouldn't have to fight them for it. My social graph doesn't overlap with theirs so multiple arkinox's is ok.
Curious to hear your thoughts
Not super sure. We do need at least local consensus on names. Global consensus on some names is helpful, but a losing fight (case in point, phishing urls like amazon.com.amazon-service-requests.kz).
Which is why jack will always be f63m to me, the npub could be used more in clients to help with this problem
