The point is to require the platforms to KYC all Australian users so eKaren can send goons to kick your door in when you question forced medical interventions / a racist referendum / why 1 in 30 people in the country is a foreign student / what dragqueens are doing reading books to children at public libraries / why the economy has shit itself / any other thing they don’t like.

The problem is not the social media. Noone is dealing with eg 4chan. The problem is algorithmic feeds that shows you must hateful controversial content. These algos are erasing your brain that’s why they are dangerous. They are very easy to bias towards spreading propaganda. So if we agree that selling crack on street of SF to kids is not OK we should be more emphatic to trying to fix this as well.

The State and its interventionism is the problem.
The algos aren’t feeding the kids statism like we used to get from radio and tv and newspapers and public schooling. Kids aren’t buying the facade any more because Millenials and younger are done with this shit and aren’t consuming the propaganda like the Boomers did and do.
That challenges the State’s legitimacy and they can’t have that. Can’t have people consuming unapproved narratives and wondering how big of a mob would be needed to effectively guillotine all of the parasites in parliament to rid ourselves of this nonsense.

I agree with you that state should intervene least possible. Also i think they are trying to fix the problem (ef extremism, child abuse, …) with wrong tools. Typical govt incompetency. Yet I think feeds algos are actual problem then needs to be dealt with. Imagine if buy platform where kids use to flock and i start to sneak addictive hatefull shit to them just. Would you as a parent be ok with it? We can debate level of interventionism we are ok with here but we have regulations that govenrs company practices for hundreds of years

I agree about the algorithmic feeds. The amount of shit X constantly tries to push into your feed completely unrelated to the kind of accounts and content you follow is mind blowing.
Also, i am 100% for max freedom so first it is company that needs to be “regulated” not the visitor. Second 2 consenting adults should be able to agree about anything so if i agree that X will shit russian propaganda into my brain then noone should be able to stop this transaction. But this must be maximally transparent. X must describe with max details what they are shitting into my brain. We all know they (Musk, Zuck, Xi, …) use the nastiest ways to grab tour attention and manipulate you. I am fine with that if they open the algos and let adults decide
