Working on turning this plot into a little homestead. Will be putting a garden in where the chickens are now. The area to the right of the chickens will be a mini pasture and the wooded area will be converted to silvopasture. Also need to put in more erosion mitigation.

Just 6 months of moving the chickens across this area and I'm seeing more worm castings than I ever have.

What would you do differently? What you can see in this picture is roughly a quarter acre.

I'm working on it. Thanks for the nudge!

Looks great. How’s your water situation? It looks like you’re on an incline so you might be able to slow down the run off with swales or a pond? I see you did mention erosion in your post.

There is a little of what I think is considered terracing so that helps but I think more can be done. I definitely see the soil wash out on really heavy rain events.

My property is a 3/4 acre wedge, like a triangle if you lifted two corners such that the slope was around 1ft over 10ft average then tipped one of those corners up a little higher than the other.

I'm afraid to dive into a pond just yet and it would have to be very small.

I'm actively working on building up the lowest point to at least slow the water down and hold onto more of the water. My plan is a little hugelkultur bed with a bunch of deadfall and 2 cu yd topsoil.

Also trying to learn more about how I could apply a swale properly. I need to go watch some swale videos again to brush up on my understanding.
