Diversity itself is a sign of a resilient community. The problem comes when it is forced instead of arising naturally.

In a stable community all current roles are covered and most additions would deteriorate the situation. They have little opportunity to grow and are often met with hostility. But the ones that impove the situation have a much higher chance of getting included. On the other hand, forcing diversity is almost guaranteed to destabilize and weaken communities.
