people barely even grasp how even gravity works, and every year the kids coming out of it are even more clueless than the previous year.

I originally wrote gravity, but predicted this criticism, so I changed it to "the effects of gravity" in reference to people understanding that if they let go of a glass it will fall and likely break.
I do think they understand that much. And I've managed to get some people to understand money printing to that degree.
That's also always my starting point when some friend ask about Bitcoin: FIAT money printing. If they grasp that, the rest will come much much easier.
Before they get the solution, they have to taste and fully understand the root problem.
good call on the 'how it works' point, there's a few hypotheses but no actual theory yet. we really are still no further than Newton, we can see the tree moving but we still don't know what the air is.
