Clover is one of many cover crops. The reason I use clover is because it will stay small and won’t outcompete my main plant. Along with protecting the soil from the sun, cover crops also bring life to the soil through production of sugars feeding microbes. Another great feature is that clover uses atmospheric nitrogen instead of soil nitrogen. So when you trim and mulch these plants you are adding carbon and nitrogen to the soil as well and earthworms appreciate you.

The roots will also act as a penetrator into the soil, de-compactor, and water pathway.

Lot of benefits from cover crops! I highly recommend them for organic gardening.
