I dunno why I am so annoyed by this, but no: caving would have been compromising encryption with a backdoor. They went with the only other option available to them, which was to pull encryption altogether.

Nuance is hard for the Android crowd. They ought to be asking themselves why the UK didn’t even need to demand Google create a backdoor.
