there is communitarian leftism and individualist leftism, and this is a tricky one for me, because while i believe that people are better off if they live in tightly knit communities, i'm also a weirdo who doesn't really fit well into most mainstream communities. i just dream of such communities and that they would accept me.
individualism is a bit of an uphill battle if you actually need help from your community.
if you're a wheelchair user and local businesses aren't installing wheelchair ramps because your community doesn't demand that, you're going to have difficulties living a full life.
i think it's natural to want some degree of autonomy, but there's a balance to strike there.
