I love this protocol for enabling people's ability to stay connected to who they want to connect to with no company deciding that isn't allowed, but do not expect people to connect to who they don't want to be connected to.

This is about user empowerment, user choice, not force notes on someone they don't want to see. If it worked like that, people would just leave.
